Wanipa Ndhlovu
Final-year Law student
The word that encapsulates my Cambridge experience is sacrifice. I am here because of my parents, who sacrificed the sunshine and familiarity of Zambia for a better life for me and my brother in the UK. While I have been here, I have sacrificed my time and energy to pave the way for future black students. But I have gained as much as I have given. Being both the University African Caribbean Society (ACS) President and Trinity BME Officer opened more doors for me than I could have imagined. I have been on TV, spoken on the radio, met some of my role models and become a role model to some. Best of all, I have made my parents proud. I hope that my sacrifice as well as my success will inspire future generations of black students to thrive in whichever spaces they occupy and to create new spaces too.
