College statement

Trinity College has appointed an external investigator to examine an incident in which a mechanical failure caused increased levels of chlorine in the water supply to two of its buildings – the Wolfson Building and Blue Boar Court.

Chlorine is used to maintain water hygiene and mitigate the risks of bacteria such as Legionella.

Five members of College received medical treatment following the incident on 12 August. Other residents and staff working in the buildings have been offered occupational health support.

Support is being provided to those directly and indirectly affected.

With the relevant contractor, the College identified and resolved the fault.

Trinity College has informed the Health and Safety Executive and are reporting to the Charity Commission, as per regulatory requirements.

The external investigator appointed by the College will seek to learn lessons and ensure there is no similar occurrence in the future.
