Researchers
The Wren Library houses one of the world’s greatest collections of medieval manuscripts and early printed books, alongside the College’s own archival material and extensive holdings of modern manuscripts. We welcome anyone with an academic need to consult our collections and aim to help and support research wherever possible.
All of our collections are available for consultation in the Library and an ever-growing number are available via our Digital Collections page with over 1200 medieval manuscripts already hosted online. A growing number of archival documents and modern manuscripts are being added to the catalogue on a regular basis. A smaller number of printed books have been completed as we are focusing on unique materials first. You may wish to check digital availability ahead of making an appointment.
We are open Monday-Friday:
9am-1pm ; 2.15pm-5pm.
The Library is closed at Christmas
and Easter and on the August bank holiday.
From time to time, the readers’ desk
may be closed due to an event
taking place in the Library. We will advise you
accordingly at the time of booking.
Accessibility
The Wren Library is on the first floor and only accessible by stairs; there is no lift available. We may be able to make some material available at ground-floor level; anyone with accessibility requirements should contact wren.library@cam.ac.uk outlining their needs. The Wren Library is an historic building and the temperature fluctuates widely across the year; it can be very cold in the winter and very warm in the summer and so we advise you to dress accordingly so that you remain comfortable during your visit.
